Explanation of danger symbols

E : explosive

E: Classification: Substances and preparations which can also react exothermically without oxygen and which under specified test conditions detonate or deflagrate, or which can explode through heating when partially enclosed.

Caution: Avoid blows, impacts, friction, spark formation, fire or application of heat.

Xn : injurious to health

Xn: Classification Inhalation, swallowing or absorption through the skin can cause acute or chronic damage to health. If there are indications for serious, irreversible health injury through one-time, repeated, or longer-lasting intake, especially when there is a suspicion of carcinogenic, mutagenic and reproductive toxic effects, danger of sensitization due to inhalation (in the case of a classification of R42).

Caution: Contact with the human body is to be avoided. In the case of substances which are suspected to be carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductive toxic there will be a warning about this.

Xi : irritating

Xi: Classification: Without being caustic, it can in the case of temporary, long-lasting or repeated contact with the skin or mucous membrane cause inflammations. Danger of sensitization in contact with skin(in the case of a classification of R43).

Caution: Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not breathe in vapors.

F : highly flammable

F: Classification: Liquids with a flash point of less than 21°C, which are not however extremely flammable. Solid substances and preparations which with a brief heating from an ignition source are highly flammable and which can thereafter continue to burn or glimmer.

Caution: Keep away from open flames, sparks and heat sources.

F+ : extremely flammable

F+: Classification:  Liquids with a flash point of less than 0°C and a boiling point of at most 35°C. Gases and gas mixtures which are flammable under normal air pressure and usual temperatures when exposed to air.

Caution: Keep away from open flames, sparks and heat sources.

O : oxidizing

O: Classification: Organic peroxides, which are inflammable, even if they do not come into contact with inflammable materials. Further, substances and preparations, which as a rule are not themselves inflammable, but in contact with inflammable materials can, primarily through the release of oxygen, significantly increase the danger and the severity of a fire.

Caution: Avoid every contact with inflammable substances.

Risk of ignition: Burning fires can be intensified, fire-fighting measures can be made more difficult.

T : toxic

T: Classification: Inhalation, swallowing or absorption via the skin in small amounts can lead to considerable health damage, in some cases with fatal consequences. In the case of significant indications of serious, possibly irreversible damage to one's health due to one time, repeated or longer lasting intake, especially with of carcinogenic, mutagenic and reproductive toxic effects.

Caution: Every contact with the human body is to be avoided. In the case of indisposition contact a doctor immediately. In the case of substances with carcinogenic, mutagenic and reproductive toxic effects the risks are to be pointed out. In handling these substances special regulations are to be followed!

T+ : highly toxic

T+: Classification: Inhalation, swallowing or absorption via the skin in small amounts can lead to considerable health damage, in some cases with fatal consequences. In the case of indisposition contact a doctor immediately. In the case of substances with carcinogenic, mutagenic and reproductive toxic effects the risks are to be pointed out.

Caution: Every contact with the human body is to be avoided. In the case of indisposition contact a doctor immediately.

C : caustic

C : Classfication: Destruction of healthy, intact skin tissue in its complete thickness or when this result can be predicted.

Caution: Avoid contact with eyes, skin, clothing through the use of special protective measures. Do not inhale vapors! In the case of an accident or indisposition contact a doctor immediately.

N : harmful to the environment

N: Classification: With the release into the acquatic and non-acquatic environment damage to the ecosystem through a change in the ecological balance can be caused immediately or at a later time. Certain substances or their derived products can simultaneously negatively affect different environmental areas.

Caution: Depending on the risk potential do not allow to get into the canalisation, soil or the environment. Special disposal regulations are to be followed.
