Verification of aluminium with morin

Chemicals needed

distilled water

aluminium sulfate

methanol morin solution  F T     R 11-23/25    S (1/2)-7-16-24-45

Equipment needed

test tube
optionally blacklight lamp

Test procedure

• One adds a spatula-tipful aluminium sulfate into the test tube and dissolves this with approx. 1 ml water.
• Immediately a green-yellow fluorescent color arises, which under blacklight is especially beautiful to observe.

Disposal

The reaction solution can be discharged into the drainage.

Elucidation

Morin forms with aluminium(III) a fluorescent complex.
